West 9th Closure Scheduled Before Santa Fe’s 900-Block Shutdown

The Sept. 28 schedule concerns West 9th Avenue. A separate weekday closure on Santa Fe Drive is planned after that intersection work, with local business access maintained.

Denver Water scheduled West 9th Avenue between Inca and Kalamath streets to close during work hours Monday, Sept. 28, for pipe replacement. Its Sept. 25 project update places a full closure of Santa Fe Drive between West 9th and West 10th avenues after the intersection work. It gives no firm start date for that second closure.

That sequence matters to customers and delivery drivers headed to Santa Fe’s 900 block. Tonantzin Casa de Café lists an address at 910 Santa Fe Drive, Unit 6; Niza Knoll Gallery lists its address at 915 Santa Fe Drive. Denver Water’s detour is for through traffic. The utility says local access to businesses will be maintained.

Through traffic takes a different route

Denver Water directs through drivers east on West 6th Avenue to Speer Boulevard, north to West 13th Avenue, then west to Santa Fe Drive. For local visits, it advises using available side streets and following posted signs. Flaggers are to maintain access to nearby alleys.

Once the Santa Fe block closure begins, Denver Water says it will run from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Friday. Niza says it will keep its posted hours during construction and recommends neighborhood street parking. Tonantzin lists Monday-through-Wednesday café hours of 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.

First Friday has a separate work plan

Denver Water says it will not perform this pipe-replacement work during First Friday Art Walks. The art district lists the recurring walk from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m.; Niza lists its own First Friday hours as 5 to 9 p.m. The no-work plan does not specify when Santa Fe Drive would reopen to vehicles.

The closures are part of Denver Water’s project to replace more than 2,800 linear feet of water main between West 7th and West 12th avenues. That figure describes the broader project; the next planned Santa Fe Drive closure covers the block between West 9th and West 10th.
